Vandana Shiva

Vandana Shiva is a quantum physicist, an environmentalist, feminist and civil rights activist, and a board member of the World Future Council. Shiva completed her physics studies at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. After her PhD completion, she returned to India. There she devoted herself to interdisciplinary research in technology, environment and politics at the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore. In 1982, she founded the independent Research Foundation for Science Technology and Ecology in Dehradun. Her published works include Staying Alive: Women, Ecology and Survival in India (1988), Ecofeminism (1993), written in collaboration with Maria Mies and Terra Viva, My Life for a Living Earth (2022). She is the founder and head of Navdanya international, an organisation for environmental conservation and seed and food sovereignty. She recently published Making Peace with the Earth – Through Diversity, Mutuality, Non-Violence & Care – An Ecofeminist Manifesto (2023).
