Linda Martín Alcoff
Linda Martín Alcoff (born1955), is professor of philosophy at Hunter College and the Graduate Centre, City University of New York (C.U.N.Y.). In1980, she earned a BA with honours in philosophy from Georgia State University and in1983, an MA, also in philosophy. She did her doctoral work at Brown University – receiving her PhD in 1987. Between 1995 and 2024, she has held professorial positions at Syracuse University (1995 to 1999), Stony Brook University (2002 to 2009) and City University of New York (2009 to present day). She specializes in feminist theory, phenomenology, epistemology, critical race theory and Latin American philosophy. Her influential works include: The problem of speaking for others (1991); Visible identities: Race, gender and the self (2006); The future of whiteness (2015) and Rape and resistance: Understanding the complexities of sexual violation (2018).
